What a fluffy title that is. Do you get what I mean though?
If I have learnt anything in life so far, it’s that nothing fills me with more gratitude, joy and happiness than my experiences and those special people I have shared them with. Granted, some ‘stuff’ is vital. A safe place to sleep at night, clean drinking water and something to eat, but a brand-new designer handbag or a top of the range car is just not on my list of priorities.
If someone prized me with a brand-spanking-new car, I’d probably sell it and use the money to go have an experience of a lifetime. Because memories last longer to be quite frank.
I get that I am a very fortunate woman. I am very fortunate to always have a place to stay, but as I look around my room very few items have a real emotive reaction of appreciation from me. I am sure, at the time I received or bought any one item I felt and expressed gratitude, but the more I think about it the more a simplistic life appeals to me.
So, what are some of these items?
My snowboard resting in the corner – reminds me of my absolute passion in life.
Second-hand speakers – give me the joy of dancing around my room like a lunatic.
Two framed photos of special places in my hometown – I received these one Christmas when I was living away from home and I cried with joy when I opened them because they were such a thoughtful gift.
GHD Straighteners– girls gotta have one vice, am I right?
Then there’s my wardrobe. Honestly, how much of your wardrobe do you actually wear? If I had to take a guess I would say my percentage is 20-30%. What can I say? I’m clearly a creature of habit! The older I get, the less inclined I am to have the latest trends too. If it looks good and feels comfy it’s probably going to get worn to death. If it’s an ‘on-trend’ piece… I’ll probably wear it once, spot the same outfit on several other people that day and then let it collect dust for the next few years. A friend of mine has an amazing system- every time she buys something new, she gives something she hasn’t worn for a while away to charity, I might give that a try too.
While material possessions can be thoughtfully given and truly appreciated, I am having a spring clean to fund what is really important to me.
So, thank you ebay for giving my belongings a new lease of life!
Today’s question for you… what brings the most joy into your life?
