This 30 second experiment will change your life

I have a small exercise for you today to prove that your thoughts and beliefs are far more powerful than you think and even shape your future. Before you do this, all I ask is that you give it your full attention and energy for just 30 seconds!

Here goes:

Imagine you are holding half a lemon in your hand. You feel the soft waxy skin against your palm and the juices are dripping slightly down your hand. You’ve removed the pips and now you’re putting the juicy side in your mouth. As it enters your mouth, the juices burst around inside, you take a bite and you have the fleshy part of the lemon rolling and swishing around your tongue and teeth. You have pieces of lemon and running juice all around your mouth. You devour the lemon until there’s nothing but lemon peel left in your hand. 

Now tell me what happened when you thought these thoughts?

Did you salivate?

Could you feel the saliva gush into your mouth as your mind imagined devouring the imaginary lemon?


Do you realise what this means? In a broader context, it means that our thoughts and beliefs produce reactions in our bodies that we are sometimes not even aware of. Wow. Mind. Blown.

It means that you can trick your brain into thinking thoughts, or even replacing bad memories because your brain can’t tell the difference between the real and the imaginary.

If you are suffering from anxiety, depression, fear of rejection, lack of confidence, undiagnosed health issues, etc, etc, you have the power to solve each and every one of these issues. You just have to believe it.

If you describe yourself as ‘depressed’ your brain is like ‘Do you know what? If you think that it must be true,’ and reacts accordingly. If you describe yourself as happy and positive (even when you don’t necessarily feel it) your brain doesn’t know the difference – you will be positive and happy. If you constantly think you are always unwell and unhealthy – your brain will agree with you and produce those symptoms. Do you see where I’m going with this?

So today I implore you to make a change. Write down who and what you choose to be. Believe that is who you are, believe it with all your heart. Your naughty brain might try to put doubts in your beliefs but don’t let it! You are the master, you control the brain.

Here is my list:

  1. I am happy and grateful every single day
  2. I am a kind, generous and loving person
  3. My body is healthy and strong
  4. I am enough
  5. I make a difference to others- my life is meaningful

Now it’s your turn. We can do this!
